Step-by-Step Guide on How to Spend a Week in Chiriquí

Activities You Can Do While Holidaying in Chiriquí

Day 1: Visit to Barú Volcano.

There is no doubt that the first spot must be Barú Volcano. This national park has a high ecological and geological value for the whole of Central America since it hosts species that are unique to the area.  The scenery will take your breath away!

According to the Visit Centroamérica platform: “The ascent to Barú Volcano is a four-hour journey on foot, or 30 minutes on a 4WD (all-terrain vehicle) on a rugged road.”

On clear days, you will be able to see the Atlantic and Pacific oceans from the top.  Besides, it offers a great opportunity to do some exercise in contact with nature while exploring the trails that give access to the different craters of this giant.

Day 2: Visit to Drácula Farm in the Highlands of Chiriquí.

Located at 2, 200 m above the sea level, this spot is renowned as one of the best national parks in Panama; it has a botanical garden that specializes in growing and preserving orchids.

Furthermore, this place promotes environmental education and biodiversity protection; it also supports scientific research, local knowledge, and plant collection.  The spot was named after the Dracula orchid.

Days 3 and 4: Make the Most of Our beaches.

Chiriquí is loaded with wonderful beaches such as, Las Lajas, Boca Chica and La Barqueta. Known as Islas Secas, the small volcanic archipelago in the Gulf of Chiriquí is a nearby spot where you can to get a suntan, have a picnic, do water sports, go fishing and watch birds and/or whales, among other choices.

Days 5 and 6: Explore Boquete.

Located to the west of Panama, this small city— over Caldera River— is the ideal place to experience extreme adventures; cross hanging bridges; bathe in hot springs; visit herpetaria and butterfly gardens; and explore our trail to Cochea River.

Day 7: Visit to los Cangilones de Gualaca, Carved by Estí River.
